OK, it wasn’t a comment sent in to the blog but I have to share this darling email sentiment I received. I’ve blocked out the name to protect the innocent who associate with me, the nutter who emailed, and the profanity (but it reads SO much better if you capitalize the asterisks in your head while you are reading):

Your opinion on the Dog Law Officers and their relationship to whose jurisdiction they should be under, totally amazes me! I have come to the final conclusion of you that you are a F***ING idiot. to add to this……i often get arguments as to the validity of the animal welfare cause. many want to point to cancer, poverty, autism or any number of other causes they deem more worthy of time and money and effort. it is more often than not argued that these causes are far more important and far more pertinent than the saving of a few “vicious pitbulls or stray cats”. my answer is always the same: there is much wrong with the world, much that should be fixed. i ask people to support my mission of helping animals and the organizations that do so, but more than that i ask everyone to please have a cause. any cause. animal welfare may be mine, but cancer research or autism awareness may be theirs….no cause is greater or more worthy. if everyone stood for something, fought for something….how great would the world be? it should not be a competition, rather should n’t it be about leaving the world a better place than you found it?

Let me get this straight… you are equating human children to pigeons?

Don’t be silly and pedantic. I’m guessing you are talking about my reference to child labor (I had to reread what I wrote because I didn’t actually know what you were talking about since I obviously was not equating children to pigeons.) My rhetorical point, which I must have made so deftly it slipped right by you, is that the NRA seem to place so much weight on “tradition”, as if tradition is itself a reason to maintain something. My clear point is that there are many “traditional” activities, such as child labor, slavery and drowning witches, which have dropped to the wayside when our community standards have changed. The obvious reason for this, as well as the stealthy new language they use- I can’t wait until they start calling them “avian trajectory calculation contests” so they can convince people it’s building math skills- is to make it about anything other than what it is: a non-sporting kill fest that has nothing to do with hunting or any semblance of true honor or tradition. Save your outrage for Ingrid Newkirk. K

Wait, Assitant coach? I just wrote a whole “grad student as peon, cut some slack for the powerless” response. I rescind it. Slack nine years ago. Fire the guy today. He’s all grown up now and deserves it.

I view those who allowed this to go unreported as more culpable than the victimizer. Perhaps the rapist has a mental illness. The administrators and coaches have no such defense.
